Jeffrey Barksdale Jr. – OPTA
Hello, my name is Jeffrey Barksdale, Jr., and I am an Optician Apprentice (OPTA). I have about 2.5 years of prior optical experience.
I just happened to stumble into the optical profession, but ended up liking the profession. I began my optical career as an Optometric Technician where I pretested many patients for Optometrists. I was, essentially, the doctor’s right hand. Whether it was taking eye measurements or eye pictures, with our various optical machines, I was their go to person.
Later, I was placed into an Optician role, as well. I was, essentially, a hybrid worker. I ended up performing well as an optician. I later learned about different optical career advancement opportunities, such as becoming a Licensed Optician, and I decided that I wanted to obtain the ABO and NCLE certifications in order to position myself to achieve that goal. I did obtain the ABO certification in 2020, but I need to obtain it again because I ended up pursuing other passions in IT for a few years, so my ABO certification ended up expiring, but now I am back in the optician world! And I am ready to perform my best!
In the future, I am planning to obtain the ABO and NCLE and become a Licensed Optician as soon as I can. I may even take it further than that. Only time will tell!
